The Brook Sanctuary is located just a few kilometres from downtown Nelson. The Sanctuary was established on the site of the city’s former water works by a group of visionary individuals. After years of labour, intense fundraising and unwavering community support, the Brook Sanctuary is now a haven for nature lovers. Start at the visitor centre, an immersive outdoor classroom, then walk through a set of gates at the 14.4km pest-proof fence. The tracks are well maintained with pedestrian bridges, (some of wheelchair standard). You will quickly discover how important Wildlife Sanctuaries are both now and in the future.
